About
Inspired by ancient cave paintings and animalier painters; from Jean-Baptise Oudry to Edwin Landseer, these paintings explore ideas of nature and sentience. The relationship and reliance humans have with animals is necessary and happens despite limited communication. Through these portraits I investigate concepts of collaboration, purpose and the dichotomy of perception and of being perceived.
Used for camouflage, display and warnings, through the patterns of animal skins and markings, I investigate the primordial language of colour. These patterns and textures are metaphorically rich; as are their connections to environment, beauty and evolution.
